Jessica Bland (BackStory Academy Artistic Instructor) graduated from Wells College in 2013 with a B.A. in the Performing Arts and Philosophy. Before arriving at BackStory, she worked with Syracuse Stage, honing her craft as a teaching artist for culturally and linguistically diverse student populations. Jessica’s particular teaching interests lie in working with young people to advance their skills in literacy through the use of the theatrical arts. Her personal artistic passions include Shakespeare and devised theatre. When she’s not on-stage or in the classroom, Jessica can be found at her kitchen-counter working on a new craft project, or adventuring in the great outdoors.
Felicia Bredenberg (BackStory Youth Theatre Stage Director and BackStory Theatre Academy Instructor) received her BA in English and minored in Theatre Education at the University of Northern Colorado. Shortly after graduation, she taught both language arts and theatre classes during her six years with Lakewood High School, while also becoming the co-director for the LHS Theatre Company. In addition, she helped create the school’s improv troop and spearheaded their Shakespeare Festivals. Felicia joined the BackStory team in 2015 as an Academy Instructor and led the youth theatre cast in a spectacular production of Meredith Wilson’s The Music Man, in the fall of 2015. When she’s not directing delightful escapades with BackStory, Felicia is working towards her Associate’s in ECE, working for the City of Westminster Preschools, and loving her supportive husband and three adorable children!

Kelly Bidstrup Graham (BackStory Youth Theatre Music Director) graduated from MSU Denver with a B.A. in music and a minor in marketing. Starting at age 17 she worked as a private music tutor for a variety of instruments and voice. After college she turned that tutoring career into a full time position at the Early College of Arvada, teaching music and drama. Over the course of her tenure there she has built a thriving theater program and fostered a culture of arts appreciation supported by an unconventional instrumental music ensemble, a High school honor Chorale, and comprehensive choir and drama classes for middle school students. She is a strong promoter and supporter of the arts and believes firmly that arts education teaches valuable life skills academic education often doesn't. She brings passion and dedication to every project she takes on whether she's teaching, directing, or performing. She makes making art a priority and is so excited to make art with BackStory!
Michelle Hoffman (Development, Grants, and Special Projects) came to BackStory as an integral member of the grant writing team and continues providing strong support in that and other areas of marketing and development. When she’s not writing witty words about BackStory, Michelle is actively engaged in several volunteer projects including heading the annual Gala for her child’s charter school and supporting the gifted and talented community in Adams 12 School District. Michelle lives in Broomfield with her wonderful husband and daughter.
Mary Wilkie (Executive Director/Artistic Director and Academy Instructor) attended University of Northern Colorado with a focus in Theatre Arts and has a BA in Communications from MSU Denver. Mary was among the founding troupe of the Broomfield Summer Youth Players, an entirely youth-led theatre company and has over fifteen years experience instructing youth theatre, visual arts, and STEM curriculum. When she’s not herding proverbial cats and delighting in the challenges and excitement of her role with BackStory, she provides private acting lessons and tutoring to all ages, specializing in learning support and strategies for youth with special needs and learning difficulties, and is a strong advocate for inclusive and adaptive education in public schools and all enrichment programming. Additionally, she enjoys lending a voice for arts engagement and learning with various boards and committees throughout the community, including as Chair of the Broomfield County Cultural Council. Mary is very proud to be the parent of two amazing young boys in a family which constantly keeps her learning, growing, and laughing.
